WE BELIEVE, TEACH AND CONFESS…
We are a Lutheran parish with a distinctively Lutheran identity. What does that mean?
It means that we are all about three specific things:
FAITH in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
GRACE as a free gift God’s give us through His one and only Son (Ephesians 2:8-9).
SCRIPTURE as the inspired and inerrant Word of God.
These three things are known among us as the “Solas” (Latin for “alone”) of true faith:
Sola Fide (faith), Sola Gratia (grace) and Sola Scriptura (Scripture).
Christ’s Greenfield Lutheran is a Creedal community.
The word “Creed” or in Latin “Credo” means “I believe”. We embrace the historic faith statements of the Christian Church on earth: The Apostles’, The Nicene, and the Anthanasian. We believe in the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit: One God in three persons).
We believe in one Lord Who created all things: visible and invisible.
We believe in our Savior, Jesus Christ. His virgin birth, life, death, resurrection and glorious ascension.
And we believe in the Holy Spirit: the Lord and giver of Life, the Holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the resurrection and the life in the world to come.
Christ’s Greenfield Lutheran is a Sacramental community.
We celebrate the ways in which God communicates His grace to us through His Word, Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
We believe we are all sinners in need of forgiveness so we focus on the power of Baptism, encouraging everyone, young and old alike, to be baptized, as soon as possible not just because Christ’s commanded it (Matthew 28:18-20) but because of the wonderful things that come with it (Acts 2:38-39, Galatians 3:26-29, Colossians 2:9-15, etc.).
We believe in Holy Communion: Christ’s body and blood in, with and under the elements of bread and wine offered every Sunday at every other service (Matthew 26:17-30, Mark 14:12-16, Luke 22:7-13, 1 Corinthians 10:14-23 & 11:17-34).
We believe in Scripture interpreting Scripture: the clear passages shedding light on those that may be less clear to us. For us, God’s Word, Old and New Testaments, are the only informing norm for life and living among us.
Christ’s Greenfield Lutheran is a Liturgical community.
We value the Biblical and historical structure of worship handed down to us from generation to generation from the time of David forward. Whether we are doing traditional (2nd and 4th Sunday) or contemporary (1st and 3rd Sundays) worship, every service begins with the Invocation of the One true and living God, a confession of sins, the absolution, the reading of selected sections of the Bible from both the Old and New Testaments (The three year common lectionary), prayer, the Lord’s Prayer, the celebration of the Sacraments, and the ancient Aaronic Benediction (Numbers 6:24-26).
Christ’s Greenfield Lutheran is a Catechetical community.
We cherish sound Biblical education that strives for excellence academically and spiritually. We are a teaching congregation with one of the largest Lutheran preschools in the nation boasting both the L.E.A. (Lutheran Education Association) and the prestigious N.A.E.Y.C (National Association for the Education of Young Children) accreditations. We also have a growing elementary school that has recently begun introducing double grades (Kindergarten through Eighth grade) and is engaged in its own accreditation process. All of our elementary teachers hold their Bachelors degree and several have earned their masters.
We believe in the importance of programs like Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
We believe in encouraging life-long learners directly through our Preschool and Elementary School and through our association with Christian High Schools and Universities such as Concordia University in Irvine, California.
We believe in a comprehensive confirmation program for youth (ages 6th grade and older) and adults.
We believe in large and small group Bible studies provided every day of the week in a wide variety of settings and at various times of the day taught by both staff and lay volunteers.
Christ’s Greenfield Lutheran is a Confessional community
We believe in the importance of walking together (Latin – Synod) with parishes around the world who share a common faith.
We believe that the Book of Concord (circa 1580) which includes The Creeds, the
Augsburg Confessions, The Apology, The Smalcald Articles, The Treatise, the Catechisms and the Formula of Concord is a correct exposition of Holy Scripture.
We believe in the partnership and importance of being associated with over 6,000 other parishes, schools, universities and institutions around the United States that share our convictions and make up The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.
We believe the true Church on earth can be found wherever the Word of God is preached in all purity and the Sacraments are administered according to Christ’s institution.
Christ’s Greenfield Lutheran is a Sending community
The purpose for our existence is to proclaim Jesus Christ to the nations.
We believe that the Church is called to send the elect back into the world to be the “Light” and the “Salt” Christ has made us to be (Matthew 5:13-16 & 28:18-20)
We believe it is important for our parish to make an impact in the world for Christ.
We believe that we are God’s ambassadors of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18-20), a holy priesthood (1 Peter 2:4-5) called by God to bring His good news to the ends of the earth.
