Sunday Morning Children's Program
Matthew 22:37-39
This year for Christ’s Greenfield Youth and Children’s Ministries we are all about love. Our theme verse is Matthew 22:37-39 and it says that the greatest commandment is to: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” And the second is just like it, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” When we truly Love God with everything that we are, it becomes easier for us to follow His commands and it results in a heart for serving others. While thinking of this verse we decided to re-brand Sunday School with the title Agape Kids.
Agape is one of three Greek words for love and it is defined as a deeper sense of ‘true love’ or sacrificial love. Jesus had an agape kind of love for us on the cross. It is this love that hits our hearts, draws us into God’s arms, and calls us to share it with others. It is this love that we are to “impress upon our children.” (Deuteronomy 6:7). With that here is what Agape Kids is all about.
The philosophy of Agape Kids is that: led by loving adults who have a heart for God children will EXPERIENCE God’s love and grace in Children’s Church, are ENGAGED in God’s Word with their peers in Huddle Time, and EXPRESS their faith at home with their families and friends.
What is Children’s Church?
In this large group setting for children in Kindergarten-5th grade worship comes alive with a variety of activities: songs, Bible storytelling, learning games, dramas, object lessons, offering, prayers and more. It is led by either a DCE or Pastor. (Children younger than Kindergarten will have the same Bible lesson but will not be in Children’s Church.)
What is Huddle Time?
This small group time happens right after Children’s Church. An adult leader with a group of 5-8 students will talk about the lesson, memorize the key Bible verse, discuss the Agape Challenge, grow closer to their peers, and learn to share within their community. What is the Agape Challenge?
It is our goal at Christ’s Greenfield that each child will learn certain Biblical truths before they enter into Confirmation. These include: the Lord’s Prayer, Apostle’s Creed, Ten Commandments, Sacraments, Bible verses, and more. They will be challenged each week to make applications to their own lives and to understand why we confess them as God’s truth.
How to Get Involved
We want to challenge Jr. High and Sr. High youth to volunteer to makek a 3-week commitment for Agape Kids. There are areas open as assistants, teachers, drama team, music team, and even if you just feel like you could help make copies. Contact DCE Mike if you are interested in serving at Agape Kids and are up for the challenge. You may also check out our Youth website for more information. Hope to see you Sundays at 9am for Agape Kids!
